- 2021–2026 — Chief Scientific Officer — Renault Group, Paris, France & Palo Alto, USA. Designed and deployed the first LLM-based Avatar in mass-market cars. In charge of innovative special projects. Led the « Software République », a group of major European companies.
- 2012–2021 — CTO and SVP Innovation, Strategy and Innovation Center — Samsung Electronics, Menlo Park, CA. Developed and launched ARTIK Cloud, an open ecosystem for the Internet of Things. Pioneer of cloud interoperability and « Small Data » ideas.
- 2011–2012 — Director, Siri — Apple, Inc., Cupertino, CA. Co-author of the founding Siri patents at SRI International. Grew the team from 40 to 85 people and supervised all components of Siri.
- 2010–2011 — Chief Technologist — Hewlett-Packard Company, L.P., San Francisco, CA. Designed and implemented the cloud architecture for all connected printers. Led a worldwide team of about 200 architects and developers.
- 2004–2010 — Co-Founder and CTO — Orb Networks, Inc. (Acquired by Qualcomm), Oakland, CA. Invented « Place Shifting » by creating a multiplatform system for streaming multimedia content.
- 2000–2007 — Co-Founder — Soliloquy Learning (Acquired by Scientific Learning), Union City, CA. Pioneer of Reading Assistant, combining speech recognition with pedagogical interventions, used in more than 1,000 schools in the United States.
- 2000–2010 — Co-Founder and VP R&D — BravoBrava! LLC, Union City, CA. Technology incubator focused on new interfaces for education and multimodal products. Created the spin-offs Soliloquy Learning, AgileTV, SpeaKESL and Orb Networks.
- 1998–2000 — Founder and Director, Computer Human Interaction Center — SRI International, Menlo Park, CA. Innovated in human-machine interaction and rapid prototyping. Built the first smart refrigerator, the first smart car and many other projects.
- 1996–1998 — Research Engineer, Speech Technology And Research Laboratory — SRI International, Menlo Park, CA. Led projects related to speech and web interface design. Co-founder of Nuance Communications.
- 1994–1996 — Fellow Researcher — SRI International/Artificial Intelligence Center, Menlo Park, CA. Defined and designed multimodal (pen and voice) interfaces, studied gesture recognition and agent architectures.
